One of the best poker software features released of late from PokerStars - at least to me - is the ability to show one card when folding yourself, or getting your opponents to fold. Now I have long been a proponent of rarely - close to never - showing my cards, but the ability to only show one of them can help to mislead your opponents by not showing any at all. Let me give you an example.

I had JsTh in the big blind in a 27 player sit and go the other night. An aggressive, late position raiser came at my blinds once again, and this time I decided to flat call. The flop came K57 rainbow. Since I did not play many hands I thought that I could represent that K by calling his c-bet, which I knew was coming. He bet, and I flatted again. Another King came on the turn, so if I wanted to represent holding one, it would be unlikely for me to check the turn, so I did bet.

He paused, and folded.

Now since this player, and others have a certain profile on me, none of them could really guess what I was actually holding there, but they could definitely surmise that in fact, I did have a King. I want to mislead them even more into thinking they are correct about my style of play, so by showing my one Jack when he folded, he will surely put me on a KJ hand. I suppose I could do the same with my ten, but the Jack suits my calling profile better.

Now did this new poker software feature help me in this spot? I think it did because I was able to further mislead my opponent into portraying myself as a predictable player. If I showed nothing, yes he could have still thought I had a King, but I wanted him to feel like he knew me and made a good fold.

Yes I think I will be using the "show one card" poker software feature more in the future.

Poker software review quotes:

Online poker hasn't really been around for too long, maybe a decade or so, but as soon as it was, clever programmers were thinking about designing online poker software tools that could not only produce a winning edge for a player, but stretch the meaning of fair play.

Well the best poker software tools have survived an era of audacious claims made by many fly-by-nighters. Poker software like Poker Tracker, Holdem Manager and Tournament Indicator have achieved real staying and power market share largely due to following the rules set out by online poker rooms such as Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars, yet they have displayed evidence of creating clear advantages for those who use the tracking software.
