I have received a request for a view of my current HM preferences. You can see them in the poker forum. If anyone is having problems, sometimes it is caused by too many individual alterations and the only option is to remove all stats and start over again from scratch.
If you have any queries post them here in case other members can help in case I am unable to do so. (I know this is the TI forum but as members know I use TI and HM combined when playing).
I started out using Poker Office, but moved to Poker Tracker as Poker Office was a bit unstable - although a good product. PT2 was an excellent product and I used it for a few years but the upgrade to PT3 was a disaster for Poker Tracker and a large number of people switched to Holdem Manager as a result of the mess. HM is an extremely good, flexible product and worth taking a bit of time to set up.
The NAME on the HUD display is linked to the stack size in BB terms. Therefore if you colour code the NAME, it changes colour when the stack size matches the value of the new colour. I use it as a broad M Zone colour guide on screen - it does not give the exact M Zone numbers as TI will and there is a limitation outlined below - but it works.
HM will only allow you to put in 5 colours and if you want to include with and without antes figures you need to use 2 filters (Name and Abbreviated Name). There are 5 Mzones, so all can be included normally, but because I use an Orange2 Zone, I drop the Grey Zone in my choice of 5 colours because I can usually see when a player is in the Grey Zone. I cannot use Orange twice, so I use Blue for the Orange2 Zone in the HUD display.
Therefore my HUD display now contains the Name on line 1 and Abbreviated Name on line 2. The antes usually appear by level 7, therefore I use line 1 (Name) for the colour coding WITH antes.
You need to do the following to keep everything fixed in one place - checkmark the "Fix my Stats position" in player preferences. If you want to get the mucked cards in the correct place, do the following:
Go to Tables Preferences and check mark "Mucked Card and Alignment Edit Mode" - now go to your live table. You will see AA/22/33/44/55/66/77/88/99 on the table - these are the mucked card positions. Move them to where you want them and then go to Table Preferences and click Apply and Done. The AA-99 will disappear. Go back into Table Preferences and uncheck the 'Mucked Card and Alignment Mode' and click on done.
Your stats will appear in fixed position and mucked cards will appear where you wish them to appear. If you want to move any stats to a new position, just right click on them and move them. I am sorry you both think Holdem manager is crap - Marty gives it 5 stars as the top poker software product and 99% of players hold the same view. It does take a bit of effort to set up, but in the very competitive online poker world it is essential. There are a number of thread in the forum providing advice on set up etc.
I am a big fan of Tournament Indicator and believe it to be an excellent product - if you do not have HM then TI is certainly a very good place to start. If you look at page 2 of the old thread via the link in my initial post above you will see a screenshot of how I use both products in MTT (TI for current data and HM for cumulative data as it is my main database).
Clutter can be an issue and as with all things, personal preferences are usually different - there is no 'right' way to use software.

Online poker hasn't really been around for too long, maybe a decade or so, but as soon as it was, clever programmers were thinking about designing poker tools that could not only produce a winning edge for a player, but stretch the meaning of fair play.
Well the best poker software tools have survived an era of audacious claims made by many fly-by-nighters. Poker software like Poker Tracker, Holdem Manager and Tournament Indicator have achieved real staying and power market share largely due to following the rules set out by online poker rooms such as Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars, yet they have displayed evidence of creating clear advantages for those who use the tracking software.
