The HeadsUp Poker Trainer iPhone APP is one of many poker applications available for the iPhone or iPod. You can download it from your iTunes either via your smartphone or computer with iTunes installed. A common scenario in heads up play in Texas Hold'em requires you to make a push or fold decision. With such decisions, it is important to note that the strength of your hole cards are only one factor, where blinds, stack size and payout structure come in to play as huge factors as well.
Push or Shove Quiz This software works much like the SnGWiz for desktops, albeit a more compact unit with less features. But that's fine because this is really traveling poker software, not backbone of improving your game. Essentially you run though hand quizzes that challenge you to make the mathematically correct play of push or shove. Difficulty and common card questions can be set. You can leave the default difficulty level as any, or go straight to the tough stuff and select. You can also choose if you are the small blind or big blind and select one card that you want in your hand at all times. Having troubles with Jack Queens high hands? Then every scenario will be set up with hands like Queen ten, Queen deuce, Queen jack, etc. You get the picture. Correct or Incorrect, instantly. The software then shows if you are correct or not, while keeping a tally of your answers of right or wrong. You keep going until you don't. Waiting in the dentist's office? On the subway? Having a conversation with your wife? Take out the iPhone and start improving your decisions! One thing of note is that the developer MonkeyBrain Software developed the ranges using the Nash Equilibrium. Which is "is a solution concept of a game involving two or more players, in which each player is assumed to know the equilibrium strategies of the other players, and no player has anything to gain by changing only his or her own strategy unilaterally." This essentially means that your opponent cannot, at least theoretically take advantage of you or your playing style. A quick math guide for comparing blinds and stacks. There is also an interesting threshold guide which shows on a scale, what the blinds (1) have to be compared to your hand, and ultimately the stack size.(3). Ideally you can scroll through this and recognize a pattern that comes up in real action games. You can review those tough hands you may have gotten wrong too by checking the history page(4), and scrolling through your answers. 3 of 4 aces. The HeadsUp Poker Trainer does exactly what it says it does and very smoothly. It scores 3 of 4 aces for a solid execution. What I would like to see in the next update is near the money calculations for sit and go tournaments that have 2, 3 or 4 players remaining. That would keep the interest of using this product rather more addictive. You can find the HeadsUp Poker Trainer in iTunes AppStore. It is produced by programmer Robert Scarano. |
