Administrator note:  I have often been asked about MAC based poker assist software and I have not been able to oblige with any information of value. I started my computer education way back with a Mac IIci, but was forced to switch when it could not perform well on the internet. Times have changed for sure and a MAC is one of the coolest things to own now. This Software review has been graciously provided by a MAC user, and I hope we get some more MAC poker assist software in the future.

The only thing holding this software back is that is does not offer basic odds and drawing advice, which is a huge omission.

Getting Started with Co-Pilot

After downloading and installing Poker Copilot, I immediately created an account on Poker Stars and bought $20 worth of chips. I joined a Sit and Go table with a $3.20 buy in and started playing. I kept Poker Copilot on the side of the Poker Stars room while I was playing. I noticed nothing was happening at first, but then I realized that you have to enable the Instant Hand History on the Poker Stars software so that Copilot has something to analyze. The instructions clearly indicate this, but I tend to skip over such details :). I enabled Instant Hand:

Note that you have to check the box that says “Save My Hands History” at the top of the window (I missed this at first).

Beautiful Real Time Charts and Statistics

Once this was done, Poker Copilot started crunching away, displaying more statistics and graphs about my poker play than I could have imagined. All of this was done in real time while I was playing — I was expecting to have to manually click refresh for it to parse the hand history and display new graphs. Check out the transparent overlay that shows statistics about my opponents — very slick. On the right you can see where I started out on a losing streak, but then started making big gains once I finally caught a few good starting hands. Here’s a screen-shot of me taking down some punks with my Pocket Queens while Poker CoPilot records the action.

In addition to the graphs, you can also see a tabular listing of all of the hands you have played. All of this is presented very nicely as shown below:

Sometimes the action is so fast in online poker games that it’s hard to remember what the heck you did, so it’s nice to have the ability to look back and see what kinds of decisions you have made, what the results were, and identify any weaknesses you might have so that you can improve your game. Also, it’s very hard to keep track of all of your opponents at a 10 person table, especially when you are in a Turbo game and everyone is betting very quickly. It’s helpful to have a player overlay where you can monitor what everyone has done.

Conclusion

I think this is an outstanding piece of software for someone who loves playing online poker. If you invest a lot of your time and money into playing online poker, it makes sense to have the best tools available to improve your game and maximize your winnings. Poker Copilot delivers.

One thing I would like to see in the software is some sort of simple advisor that gives you a few tips in plain English on things you could do to improve your game. If I am making the same mistakes over and over again, it’d be cool if the software located these problems based on the statistics and had a place to give suggestions like “Hey dude, you keep raising on 2-7 off suit, and it never works.” or “You raise too big with pocket Aces, and everyone always folds so you don’t make much off of it”. If this is possible, I think it’d be great since currently the data is left up to your interpretation — and some people might not know what to make of it and might not be willing to put forth the effort.

Overall, Poker Copilot is a very solid product that will help you easily analyze your poker play in real time. The product is available at http://www.pokercopilot.com for $49.95.

I leave you with a beautiful screenshot of me winning 2nd place in a tournament with Python code in the background. I’m going to use the $9.00 I won to buy myself something nice!

Poker software review quotes:

Online poker hasn't really been around for too long, maybe a decade or so, but as soon as it was, clever programmers were thinking about designing poker tools that could not only produce a winning edge for a player, but stretch the meaning of fair play.

Well the best poker software tools have survived an era of audacious claims made by many fly-by-nighters. Poker software like Poker Tracker, Holdem Manager and Tournament Indicator have achieved real staying and power market share largely due to following the rules set out by online poker rooms such as Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars, yet they have displayed evidence of creating clear advantages for those who use the tracking software.
